Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 2100 SoC chipset for wearables
Qualcomm, the popular chip maker today announced a new line of wearable-ready SOC. According to company it is Next Era of Wearables. The new Snapdragon 2100 Soc chipset brings significant improvements. The default smartwatch chip Snapdragon 400 has been upgraded with new Snapdragon 2100 chipset. The new chipset is 30% smaller in physical size than the S400. It is best option for compact design and thinner wearables. It also boasts 25% better power efficiency than the old model. The all new Snapdragon 2100 SoC also has 2G/3G/LTE connectivity as well as support for low-power Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Snapdragon is already powering at least 65 different Wearable products in 30 countries. Qualcomm states that the Snapdragon Wear platform will consist of a full suite of silicon, software, support tools, and reference designs applicable to a whole range of industries. The senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Raj Talluri said:
“With the introduction of the Snapdragon Wear platform and Snapdragon 2100 SoC, Qualcomm Technologies is well-positioned to extend its progress in wearables technology by enabling sleek designs, long battery life, smart sensing, and always- connected experiences in the next generation of wearable devices.”
The new Snapdragon 2100 chipset for wearables is packed with a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU. It is clocked up to 1.2GHz and comes with Adreno 304 GPU. The GPU was featured in some of the 200-series chips. The GPU provides batter displays resolution of 640×480 pixels at 60Hz. Two versions of the chip will be available for the makers. One is tethered having only Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity. The other version is connected having full 2G/3G/LTE cellular connectivity. The chip also supports NFC, GPS and comes with Quick Charge 2.0 capabilities. Qualcomm tweeted:
